A popular feature at airshows is the Air Force Heritage Flight, in which modern jets fly in formation with vintage warbirds. Each year the participants in the Heritage Flight practice their formation flying before the airshow season at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.

Davis-Monthan Air Force Base is hosting Thunder and Lightning Over Arizona to commemorate the state centennial. On Friday the thirteenth, the day before the open house, participants in the flight demonstration program practiced their acts and several airplanes arrived to be placed on static display.
A popular feature at airshows is the Air Force Heritage Flight, in which modern jets fly in formation with vintage warbirds. Each year civilian warbird pilots from all over the country bring their mounts to Davis-Monthan Air Force Base to practice flying in formation with General Dynamics F-16 Viperws, Fairchild-Republic A-10 Warthogs, and McDonnell-Douglas QF-4E Phantom II drones from Holloman Air Force Base. Several Norrth American P-51D Mustanges, aCurtiss P-40N Warhawk, a Republic P-47D Thunderbolt, and three North American F-86 Sabres participated in the conference.
Davis-Monthan Air Force Base is home to the Fairchild Republic A-10A Warthogs of the 355th Wing, Lockheed EC-130Hs of the 43rd Electronics Combat Squadron, and aircraft of the US Customs and Border Protection Service. Due to the good flying weather, it often hosts visiting aircraft from around the country. It is also home to the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG), the place where US military aircraft go when they are retired. Davis-Monthan Air Force Base hosted Aerospace and AZ Days over the weekend of March 20-21, 2010. On Saturday, the day started chilly, but temperatures rose to the high 70s by late afternoon. A crowd of hundreds of thousands were treated to a wide variety of aerial demonstrations featuring a Search and Rescue demonstration, a Customs Agency smuggling interdiction, a performance by a Super Hornet from Naval Air Station Lemoore, the Patriots Jet Demonstration Team, a demonstration by a Globemaster III from Altus Air Force Base, flyovers by a U-2S from Beale Air Force Base, parachutists of the Wings of Blue team from the Air Force Academy, flybys by a Flying Fortress and Mustang, aerobatics by Ed Hammill in a Pitts S-2C, an Air Force Heritage Flight composed of a Skyraider and a Thunderbolt I, and concluded with the USAF Thunderbirds.

My father, Richard Lockett, and I were escorted on a tour of the Military Aircraft Storage and Disposition Center (MASDC) at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base on November 12, 1973. Before the tour we visited the scrap yards south f the base. After the tour we took pictures of airplnaes in the landing pattern.

I toured the Military Aircraft Storage and Disposition Center (MASDC) at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base with my father, Richard Lockett, on April 24, 1972. I then photogaphed an Arizona Air National Guard North American F-100F Super Sabre and a Continental Airlines McDonnell Douglas DC-10 at Tucson International Airport.
